Custom contacts for Notebook+Tag(s)
I am thinking of creating aliases for notebooks:
It could simply serve as an alternative shorter and more meaningful email address instead of the current long one.
- It could be a combination of a shorter name plus a list of tags so that email sent to this alias is forward to the corresponding notebook plus tagged appropriately.
Now, configuring these aliases can be implemented in InQloud web-interface but alternatively maybe InQloud could simply pick up these alias configurations right from your Evernote notebooks:
Maybe one special note per alias? The note's notebook and tags would basically define the alias.
Or maybe one special note per notebook which would list aliases for the notebook. This way though you can't tag each alias but would have to write the tags in the note.
Please, let me know if you have any preferences.
This capability is now available, give it a try.

Hi Jerry,
Yes, this item was implemented a while back in our UI instead.
The service was originally designed for mobile phone users, to simplify manual forwarding but looks like many users do use it with gmail filters.See this KB article now:

The purple "completed" probably means this forum is done? But in case not, in thinking through what I said before, I might be inclined to take that back -- because, I think Gmail/Google Apps Mail limits filters that can forward to 20. If that means I really couldn't have more than 20 aliases (am I thinking correctly?) for auto-filtered-forwarding to Evernote, I could handle that.

I just found this forum this morning while looking for a way to do exactly this. I love it. I'm not sure how cumbersome it will ultimately be. I do like the idea of having one note within each notebook that defines all that aliases for that particular notebook. It would make it easier for me to find them, I believe.
My first use is going to be for receipts, invoices and statements. I've always nested these in Dropbox and starting 2013 (now, actually) am going to use Evernote. Today I got my monthly auto-bill-to-credit-card email from the newspaper. I created my first alias, having it go to my @receipts notebook with my #newspaper tag. Worked great, but took me a little while to figure it out.
I can see eventually having lots of different tags in this particular notebook. I really like the idea of defining in a note if there is an easy way to do it. Hmmmm.
Sorry this was so long. Thank you for this service.

I really, really like the idea of having aliases for the notebooks. Like Shannon, I have similarly titled notebooks so having something more distinguishable and shorter will help send emails to the appropriate notebooks faster.
If I'm understanding correctly, in option 1, the user could create the note within the notebook that identifies the tags to establish the alias? I think I like that better than having multiple aliases for a single notebook (which is my interpretation of option 2).
Thanks for letting us weigh in!

The address right now is
username+id1+long-notebook-id2+skey@eversyncer.net
I was thinking of only allowing you to substitute the "long-notebook-id2" part with a simpler name of your choice but sounds like you'd also like the username to be configurable. Choosing a new username is doable.
But I kinda wanted to keep the "username+id1" part in the address as another user may give you his/her notebook address so it'd be useful to see the username in the address.
I could move those to the back so that the address starts with the custom/intuitive text:
<your-custom-string>+username+id1+skey@

I agree an alias is a good idea as I have some notebooks that start with the same letters and it's tough to see which notebook I'm sending to.
Instead of trying to come up with an alias for the user, if it's on the Yoxel side, maybe we could come up with our aliases?
-
James, do you care where this alias (the simpler address) is defined? InQloud web-interface vs. Evernote special format note?
It should probably be InQloud as we need to make sure that the simple name is a valid string (ASCII only plus unique).
-
Definitely, one reason for the alias is to have a recognizable simple string right in the email address itself so it would be easy to choose the right address for the gmail filter when you only see the email address part of a contact.
-
I think that letting a user configure the aliases right in his/her Evernote could be quite convenient. But, would it clutter your notebooks? Plus the choice of the short name is constrained (ASCII only, and unique among all notebooks), checking those constrains will be more difficult.
So maybe we do the alias configuration in InQloud web interface then? Any suggestions?

the simpler the mail address the better. I was going to use gmail to do the forwarding (but I have realised that adding forwarding rules in gmail is a pain so am doing it in Mac Mail, where I can copy/paste in the address, but if it was recognisable rather than a string it would reduce the chance for error!
